Hay, water, grain and salt are the essentials needed in feeding your horse. Quality hay should smell sweet like newly cut grass. It should be checked to make sure that there are no molds. A feeder is usually needed in feeding the horse with hay. These are available in livestock supplies stores.

A horse will also need to have clean water available at all times. In a cold environment, it might be necessary to have a heating element to make sure that the water supply remains drinkable. Another important supply for your horse is grain. It is concentrated feed that can make the horse sick if he eats too much. Make sure that he gets only the correct portion for his size and weight. A horse should also have free access to salt whenever he needs it.
